Richard Margolies.
Artist Richard margolies was born into a suburban middle working class family on long island ,new York.
early on Richard discovered his natural and intuitive talent for drawing at the age of 9 years old while in grade school drawing cartoon characters. Richard started working in the family auto motive repair business at an early age. there he would find time to draw concept car he imagined.
his creative spirit was suppressed by an over bearing father seeing no practical use for being an artist.
when his draft notice can in late 1968 Richard enlisted in the U.S. NAVY, sometime after he left military service he used the GI bill and enrolled at the Art Student League of New York, working day's at a warehouse job and traveling into New York city in the evenings, there he studied figure painting and drawing, where he honed his visual skills. finding figurative painting restrictive, he enrolled in an abstract painting class,
there Richard began to find his true creative voice, heavily influenced by abstract artist of the 1950's and 1960's.
His paintings use light, texture, color, layered to create abstract works that are colorful and expressive.
currently Richard is working on new painting in his studio on Long Island, New York.
